ATTILIUS MIND-FORM TRAINING SYSTEM

(MARTIAL QIGONG)

The Definition of Attilius Mind-Form

Qigong and Martial Arts training are very closely related; If you study one art, you should study the other art, hence the development of Martial Qigong thousands of years ago in ancient China. Next, add in a blend of restorative, ballistic, and grinding movements via strength and conditioning training and a beneficial Yin Yang fusion comes to life to create a balanced and healthy mind and body.

One thing to clarify, Mind-Form training is not a complete program in a sense that you won’t be learning a martial art front to back; you won’t be doing a complete weight training program. Those are beyond the scope of Mind-Form and training on either would need to have their own stand alone program.

Why Practice Attilius Mind-Form?

We have forgotten the purpose of human movement, and how beneficial it is from the time we started to crawl, to towards the end of this chapter of our lives.. House of Attilius’s purpose is to re-build our House (mind-body-spirit) from the foundation up (Foundation + Walls + Roof = durable, strong, everlasting) in order to bring us to a place where we can excel anywhere in life, and meet all challenges head-on with the tools necessary to give us a fighting chance.

TRUE VICTORY IS VICTORY OVER ONESELF

Mind-Form Programming Steps Outlined

The structure outlined below will give you an idea of what will transpire, but note that there are additional parts that will connect MF-2 through MF-7 together which are not listed. Sections may also at any point be left out of a student’s program due to it not being part of an immediate goal, etc.

Releases are completed outside of the actual Mind-Form program as they are performed on an as needed basis and are unique to each individual and their areas that are tight and stiff. Despite the improvements you feel with Mind-Form training, there will still be encouragement to seek out massage therapy, foam rolling, etc., to assist in keeping your wellness in check.

Readiness is where Mind-Form officially begins, preparing students with a flow of Physiology (warming up), Biomechanics (helping you move better), and Specific (elements that are specific to Mind-Form training); a joint by joint approach. The CNS (Central Nervous System) prep will be paired with the exercises here, and interwoven, to activate the system and increase heart rate with a simple and effective modified agility drill.

Post MF2 Program Structure:

Students will lie on the floor, on their back in preparation for Qigong Joint Breathing (loosen and relax the body)

The Reset will help the student move air and Qi (energy) through their body. This is one of the most common forms of Qigong and is designed to build a healthy body and a calm and relaxed mind. Performing this helps condition the joints, promote self healing for injuries and arthritis, as well as bone marrow nourishment.

When the joints are relaxed, the ligaments and tendons will be loosened, the muscles will relax, and then the body will follow.

Post MF3 Program Structure:

Students will move into an exercise called the “Get-up” and then bring themselves into Seiza, a formal way of sitting in Japan (seen in martial arts as well). From here the students right leg will step out forming a kneeling and a partial guard position, then into a standing position- where they will bow and Qi refresh.

MF4 is not about learning a martial art front to back but is about utilizing the benefits of movement using martial arts as a conduit to aid in body and mind growth and improvement.

A form of Qigong used by Shaolin Monks for more than 1400 years, Da Mo Wai Dan, are used not only to circulate Qi and improve health, but also to improve internal power by concentrating Qi to affect the appropriate muscles.

There are a few different styles of Da Mo Wai Dan which will be changed in and out periodically, but these forms will always be performed prior to R5.

This exercise will be a lead in to a more expansive meditative movement which is a fusion of Qigong, Balance work, and Martial Arts. The focus here is on working with the three dantians (our energy centers), breath work, and having our movement set at Yin speed (slow).

Post MF4 Program Structure:

Internal power work is performed starting with the  Da Mo Wai Dan, and then leading into a hybrid Martial-Qigong flow with a balance in which breathing and focus become the main target.

MF5, ancillary programming,  can consist of strength, conditioning, and power fundamental training, or it can be utilized as a modified performance recovery training to push us deeper into a further recovery state.

Post MF5 Program Structure:

The program at the time of training will be explained, performed, and a Qi refresh will be performed before moving onto R6.

Bringing things to a close, breath work recovery taking us from a sympathetic to parasympathetic system will be utilized here. We will utilize various breathing techniques (only one will be used at a time; which varies on needs programming) such as abdominal, reverse, embryonic.

Post MF7 Recovery Structure.

We reverse The Get-up and lower ourselves to the ground and either bring ourselves into Seiza to perform our recovery or Prone Joint Qigong position (with a slight focus change) for breath focus.

After, we complete our immediate recovery, we will bow out (respect) (if we’re not in Seiza, we will move up into that position and either Bow or Wai out. The session will be complete after.

MF7 is a complete program that incorporates the previous courses- from birth we start on the ground and we rise to our feet- the same concept is applied here with breathing, martial arts techniques, qigong, meditation and balance work.
